IES/ESE
Indian Engineering Services/Engineering Services Exam abbreviated as IES/ESE are the engineering services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the Government of India. IES officers are Class –I/ Group -A officers selected by the union government on the recommendations made by the UPSC.

ESE is considered as the toughest exam in India due to less number of posts having a selection ratio of 1/300 (based on statistics) and its technical nature. Because of this difficult selection procedure, IES officers carry high respect in society and are able to manage activities in diverse areas. All appointments to the Group A services are made by the President of India.
A combined four-stage competitive examination (comprising six tests),is held for the selection procedure.

Paper-I (Objective Type)
General Ability Test: (Part A: General English I Part B: General Studies)

Paper-II & III (Objective Type)
In the respective Engineering Branch (CE/ME/EE/E&T)
200 Marks for each Paper
Paper-IV & V (Conventional Type)
In the respective Engineering Branch (CE/ME/EE/E&T)
200 Marks for each Paper
Total Marks for written examination
1000 Marks
Personality Test (Interview)
